I found a new favorite tool. It's a compost turner. Works well but the further the tool is inserted into the pile, the more force required to pull it out. In a more aged pile where the material is broken down, it doesn't matter how far the tool is inserted. It's great for bringing the inside of the pile to the outside, letting out some heat if the pile is too hot, and adding oxygen to the pile.
