I suspect someone on Roses took the picture as this is where the moderator of the Happy Birthday forum said she got the picture from. Can someone tell me what this rose is, Zuzu, did you take it?

Yes, Alan. Sharon took the picture from our database or perhaps from a personal e-mail from me at some time in the past. It's Pure Poetry, one of my favorite roses.

I'm going to have to look for that one...speaking of which, did my Rose of the Nile come in yet? I haven't heard from Sue, and I needed to send her money for it, but never got an address from her or heard from her...Sue, are you around?

Come in from where, Alan? I don't know anything about any arrangement you had with Sue. If you mean Sue Brown, she just moved into her new house on Monday and hasn't had the Internet line connected yet. She'll be back on line in a day or two.

I bought Pure Poetry from Jackson & Perkins the first year they offered it. I think it was about 12 years ago. It disappeared from commerce shortly afterward, but I think Hortico and Roses Unlimited both carried it last year.

I hate to say this, but I don't like Jackson Perkins, everything I've ever bought from them was lacking in quality, so I gave up. The last blow was when I ordered one of their bulb arrangements for Mom for Mothers Day, When she got it the bulbs where no longer in the basket they had came in, Apparently they put to many bulbs in the basket, then watered, and when the bulbs swelled up...well, the rest is history. My Mom said it was a stinky mess when she got it.

Thanks for the tip on Hortico and Roses Unlimited. I will check them out! :)

We had our huge GardenSwap from Cubits and Daves Garden group this last weekend. The host had built a HUGE pizza oven in the front yard, and was demonstrating it to us. Was heated with wood and charcoal. It would bake a pizza in 2 minutes. I was completely amazed!! Also got me a seedling Southern Magnolia Tree, 3 amaryllis seedlings, and a Bauhinia yunnanensis vine seedling. I love our gardenswaps. I took in three huge bags of rain lilies for people to share. Those things multiply like jack rabbits!! =)

Alan, I agree that J&P should be tarred and feathered, but 12 years ago it was a wonderful company. I doubt that anything J&P sends out these days will still be thriving 12 years from now.

Hortico actually is worse than J&P, however, so it should be used only as a last resort. Maybe Toni would add it to her order for you if RU is still offering it this year.

Yes, now that I see your nickname I remember. Don't know why I was thinking Sue, guess because your nickname started with an "S". Ok, May, just let me know how much I owe you so I can send it to you right away, and thank you again Smiling May is awfully hot here, I hope it survives shipping!!

Alan - if you'd like, I will ship the rose with some cooler packs. I'm using to having to ship things (usually fish) with either heat packs or cooler packs. I only use either FedEx or UPS and I prefer the FedEx 3 day. Smiling I'll make sure that I ship it out on a Monday so it doesn't sit in transit.

What I can do is also is contact RU and see if 1) I can add that Pure Poetry & 2) have them ship my roses a little earlier. I don't think I'll have to wait until May.. one of my forsythias bloomed on Monday, so spring's here.

EDIT: called up RU - they're shipping my roses out on 4/25 instead of May 16th, so I'll get them probably around the 29th or so. Plus I had them add that Pure Poetry onto my order. If you want it, I'll tack it into the box w/your Star of the Nile. If you don't want it, no worries, it's a beautiful rose & I'll just keep it.
