I have been told that one of my roses is mislabelled. I hope folks here can help me out. I bought it and planted it in 2005 or 6. It is winter hardy here (Zone 3) with very little die back. 5 feet x 5 feet. Has thorns, very small hips and light to no scent. Big flush of blooms in early summer. Continues with only a few blooms until fall frost.
Here's some pictures to help solve the puzzle.

Maybe Do Si Do? Hermina? I'm thinking one of the Buck's roses as they're extremely winter hardy, or the Canadian series.. perhaps Felix Leclerc? John Cabot? Leaning more towards John...

I don't think any of the Buck roses have 9 leaflets. In general, the foliage is canceling out all of my guesses. The color is more John Cabot than Jens Munk, but the foliage is all wrong for John Cabot.

Nearly Wild blooms have only 5 petals.

It really doesn't look like a rugosa. And it does have a lot of the John Davis look without the double flowers. How many guesses do we get? Pink Masquerade? Prairie Charm? Simon Fraser?.

I've not grown any of these roses; but I'm glad I tried this exercise because I really like Simon Fraser. Fodder for my guesses provided by HMF search engine. I hope they seem reasonable.

You're so good at this, Steve. These are good guesses, but the only color match is Pink Masquerade.

And now we have the rest of the story.....Pink Masquerade is caught passing herself off as Jens Munk. What a tangled web we weave. But she's still a rose, by any name. Rolling my eyes. Hilarious!

And for all you unmarried roses out there, Pink Masquerade is still single. Rolling my eyes.

I've been looking thru some books. Does anyone think William Baffin as a possibility?

None of the photos I saw of William Baffin on HMF had foliage that looked like your rose...

The later photos fit with William Baffin which is sold here in every garden center.

I don't see anything that would rule out William Baffin. The subject rose has 16 petals vs Baffin's 20: close. And this photo shows foliage that looks pretty similar.

Given what I can see in pictures at HMF and here I am still inclined to think of Pink Masquerade as a slightly better fit. But the big problem is that Pink Masquerade is no longer in distribution and William Baffin is in "every garden center."

Do either of the have foliage with nine leaflets? That seemed to me to be the hardest match.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I plant that rose in 2005, so about 7 years ago.

The Calgary Rose Society folks have identified this rose as William Baffin

Yes, indeed.

Zuzu, I think some of my photos that were put in the database were put in as Jens Munk. How do we fix that?

I moved them to the William Baffin entry, Joanne. The folks in Calgary are right: They look exactly like Sue's photos of William Baffin.
