A "Rose Gardening" friend had visited the other day. She believes that my "Linda Campbell" is mislabelled. No indication of rugosa in the leaves. I bought & planted it in 2005/6. The pot had a big sticker label "Linda Campbell". What do you think it is?

It blooms continuous from early summer. Very nice dark red. 3.5 feet x 3.5 feet. This year it got mildew, but usually I don't have that issue with this rose.

I am no good at rose ID but you have certainly provided ample information - someone ought to recognize it.

It looks exactly like Linda Campbell to me. It's true that the leaf bears litle resemblance to a rugosa leaf, but it looks like the leaves on Ralph Moore's other hybrid rugosas. The foliage probably inherited the characteristics of the non-rugosa parent.

I think Linda Campbell is a good guess. I note that Champlain's leaves are a little smoother than Linda Campbell's leaves and perhaps a little more rounded. I don't see anything that would rule out Champlain. It even has those little divots in the edge of the petals.

You're right, Steve. The blooms and the foliage match on Champlain.

The flower is similar to Linda Campbell, but the leaf is not. Linda Campbell does have slightly rugose leaves and it's easy to tell it from my other roses, even when not blooming.
I think my plant came from Sequoia nurseries back when it was introduced or from the Campbells (High Country Roses when Melinda owned it).

I had to have it - Linda Campbell was my friend.
