My Dad recently built an amazing green house, and was able to get the glass and shelves at a Habitat for Humanity thrift store! He had to buy the lumber, but the glass and shelving cost him less than $40. I thought I'd pass this along, since I didn't know that Habitat for Humanity had a thrift store. I'm headed there tomorrow to see if I can find some shelving. Dad and I live in different states, but I checked the web, and they have stores in other states too. He said he was also able to pick up an attic fan there for moving the air, but got the heater, which aren't installed yet, at another store.

Here are some photos of what he built. I'm so jealous!

Great greenhouse and he is helping Habitat for Humanity at the same time. A win-win.

Sweet! I have the wire shelving in my GH, it works great! I think when my Rion needs replacement -- might not be that far away -- DH and I will consider building something like your dad made. What "form" was the glass in when he got it? What I'm wondering is, did he have to cut it to size from various sizes of windows, or ?? Do you know what kind of glass is on the roof? We have at least one pretty good hailstorm nearly every year, so not sure I'd want glass there, but window glass would be fine for the sidewalls. At any rate, that's a really nice structure, I'd say your dad knows what he's doing!!

Weedwhacker, it's tempered glass, and should hold up. Dad said you can't cut tempered glass, but I have no idea if that is correct or not. When he got it, it wasn't framed. Just plain sheets of glass. He said it's really strong though, and will hopefully hold up to a hail storm if he gets one. Dad is one talented guy! He's a diesel mechanic, but is very handy with building things!
