Thread OP

Good afternoon. I have had Hosta's in my garden for years (and years) but I have never seen one put out a spike like this. Anyone have any suggestions? Not worried, just fascinated by this new development.
Patricia

That is one of mine does every yr. This is hoe the flower ends up. I thought it was the soil but when I moved I moved it to the new house and it still blooms like that every yr.

Cinta,
That's an interesting bloom! What hosta is that?

@Rose I have no idea the name I have 25 hostas that I purchased when I purchased a house that was total shade. It was one of those cheap landscape 25 no name just something to cover a hillside.

It is the strangest thing I have asked on different Hosta sites if anyone has seen this before. But it does it every yr.

FYI I named it Sir Mutant

Maybe send a pic to Tony Avent at Plant Delights, or Bob Solberg at Green Hill Farm Hosta. They have both be good about answering questions for me.

There seems to be a lot of such weird flowers on hostas this year. I've got a couple and an out-of-town friend emailed me about one of hers. Environmental???

lots and lots of Hyper-foliated scapes and HVX popping up on older plants. it's been a weird season for a lot of places.
