Gosh, I still have a couple of ensata irises in bloom and my first box is already here courtesy of https://daylilyandiris.plantfa.... The rhizomes are large, healthy, and spotless. They were also generous with the bonuses: I ordered 5 irises and got 5 more. Yikes! I haven't made my planting chart yet. I did get some other plants this past week from Sooner Plant Farm. I was impressed with the size and vigor of their plants. They get a thumb from me.

Anyway ... so what did I receive in the first box ... drum roll:

I bought iris for the first time in several years and my Superstition order came today. To many to list but they are huge, healthy and nice bonuses. My garden helpers are coming tomorrow to plant them while I supervise. We planted 25 daylilies. When I say we planted it means Clint planted and I watched.

Paul, so nice that you have a helper! Enjoy your new irises.
When I saw pictures of Chihuahua Desert posted on here, I thought, darn, I should have ordered that one, so when I saw it in the box, I was pretty happily surprised. Smiling

I would love to have all the money back which I have spent on iris over the last 30+ years. Many were introductions which I didn't think I could live without. A few years ago I broke a hip and spent 3 months in assisted living and several more months trying to get to do things which were formally easy. Also I was the care giver for two years for my dear late wife. My garden suffered, turned into a weedy mess and I gave up, Now I'm feeling better but can't use a shovel or get down to weed but I lucked into two teenagers who help me so I can take pride in my flowers and garden. Yesterday we planted 32 Marriot daylilies from Schrieners. Tomorrow morning is iris planting day. Early so it won't be too hot. I've ordered a number of things including iris, peonies and Daylilies. In iris I tried to stay in the $10 range and ordered things which I had grown before and loved or seen pictures of or listened to other people opinions. A good friend, Blossom on NGA grows 750 cultivars and generously let me choose some when I visited her lovely garden, I ordered things like Reckless Abandon, Starring, Picture Book, Blue Bird of Happiness, My Beloved, Better Than Butter. Just Witchery, and a number of others. The Superstition Garden order is here and I would recommend them to newbies and long time growers. We dug up more lawn to enlarge beds and added compost and fertilizer and tilled it in. I'll watch them grow and wait for spring to see them bloom. I told my Dr,.....my cousin.....that he had to keep me alive for a few more years so I can see lots of bloom Whistling Shrug! Crossing Fingers!

Jan....thanks for the kind comment. This spring I thought to myself that my Daughter and Son and their mates have good paying jobs and stay out of debt. I decided to spend some of the inheritance on plants. I got a T-Shirt that reads "All I need is this plant and that other plant, and those plants over there, and........"

Paul ~ Same goes for me. I have also had a rough year, I broke my ankle in the garden last fall, and had to stay off of it for 3 months. I had one of those "boots"and I probably walked with it too much as it seemed to put my hips out of balance so I then got sciatica in the other leg!

Anyway, I am now dividing irises and rehoming others so I can make room for my hundred plus seedlings. Yes, my first iris purchase was just 2 years ago, and I made a few crosses as well. Probably not the thing to start for an old woman. nodding

Anyway, please look at my plant list and let me know if there are any that you want. If some are not ready, I can put them on hold until they are.

Paul,
I want a t shirt like yours!
Sounds like me and I think a lot of others on this forum!!
I ,too,, would have a lot more money if I had not spent it on iris ,and now daylilies, not to mention other plants. However, the beauty of the blooms has brought me a lot of joy over the years.I also love picking out what I am going to order each year, planting it ,the anticipation, and, then the excitement of seeing it bloom for the very first time.So I guess all and all, it has been worth the $ I've spent.I am just sorry I can't take care of all of it as well I was once able to do.
