I planted some Nasturtium in my garden about 3 or 4 weeks ago. They are in a clay soil that is ok to drain. I was watering them 2 times a week because they are in the full Connecticut sun all day. They were not growing and started looking a little brown. I haven't watered them in about 1 1/2 weeks and they continue to decline except for the flower buds that have suddenly appeared.

I would love to see them grow into big long Vines but i am not sure how to continue caring for them. Any Advice? See pictures.

Did you plant the vining variety? Usually nasturtiums are pretty hearty and can handle anything (I jokingly say they'd survive the worst the world throws at it and they'd still be fine). Mine only really get watered when the trough planters get watered above as they are below. They detest frost (they'll smell like rotten cabbage the morning after) and get all wimpy and limp. Did they come in contact with any weed killer? If it were me I might pull the wood mulch around it's base back a bit too. Mine are located on the East side of my house without shade until into the afternoon. This plant is one I call plant it and forget it as it always does well when I leave it alone.

My only issue in the past few years have been a good germination rate. I tend to over plant these days just because I've had some years w very thin areas when I wanted it full.

If you still have extra seed, try planting again, it shouldn't take long for it to come up again.

Don't know what is going on but mine also look like the picture above but have blooms
Last year they almost took over the herb bed flowing out into the pathway

the first set of seedlings froze off this spring during the late record freeze in May
I started the second batch in the greenhouse in peat pots and thought it might be the fault of the peat pots Shrug!

Mine are still small, we have heat but not much rain of late. I know I've had better results if I have good mix of each, plus it's still middle June and mine don't start to get full until mid to late July. This is what I have to keep reminding myself, as I'm so totally lost with time being home w/ this covid reality Smiling I also still have to find that last packet of seeds to get in the space where I had only two germinate. I'll have to keep watch if mine look the same as your two plantings.

And those blasts of late winter - crazy!
