Thread OP

I purchased this aglaonema a couple weeks back thinking I snagged a really good deal on a pictum tricolor. The seller didnt know what it was and the more I look at it, the less i think it's a normal pictum 'tricolor'. Mine has the 3 shades but the leaf shape and texture just dont quite look right. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi Vintagearoid, Welcome!

I don't see any of the white blotches or spots in the leaves of your plant and it doesn't quite look right to me for Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor') but I'm not at all familiar with Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' and perhaps it needs to mature a bit to have the white splotches? Shrug!

Perhaps our member @Gina1960, who is an avid Aroid grower will be able to offer suggestions.

Thank you @plantladylin.

I'm not too sure and I cant seem to find anything that looks like it anywhere online but hopefully @Gina1960 has something additional to share!

It looks like Tricolor, but it may be the one they call BICOLOR. Look at some Google Photos of that and see if it is more of a match. Also, the leaves of A. pictum can be variable in shape. Some are more lanceolate and oblong, some are shorter and more rounded. This is just a natural morphological variation in the species

Thank you so much for your response @Gina1960! It seems like the bicolor varies only between a dark forest green and a lime green; however, mine seems to have a third shade in the middle. Do you know what the texture of the tricolor is? It looks velvety online but I've never see one apart from this mysterious one whose leaves are more glossy.

No, I have 3 tricolors, they aren't velvety.

Hi! It doesn't look like a tricolor to me. I've had two and the leaf shapes are wider and the Camo look very distinct. This may be a bicolor although the leaves still look a bit thin.

Did you ever get an ID? My no ID aglaonema is similar, just darker..... I've asked on numerous groups but haven't gotten a positive ID yet!
