Not enough sun. Two-thirds of the lot is shaded by oak trees. The part that isn't only gets late afternoon sun.

Ah yes, well at least you have shade and can be spared the ridiculous acquisition of more and more and more irises Hilarious!

It's hard to get photos of the dark ones but I sure like them in the garden...

Oh trust me, there are enough shade plants like hosta that keep my bank account empty! I finally threw in the towel though. There are too many new ones that are too similar to older ones. And after they'r ein the ground for a few years, I can't remember the names. And the squirrel take care of any markers.
