This is another small shrub I do not know. I would appreciate if anybody can identify it for me. It is only about 3 feet high.

It's a Hebe, many are not very hardy. I would suggest it's (possibly) Hebe odora.

Yes thanks Janet, I think you are rightit is a Hebe, but I have not noticed yellow edges on the leaves, but they are dark green and glossy. By the way the photo was taken on July 10th this summer. I expect this shrub would bloom maybe a month earlier in the UK.

Look very carefully at your photo Magga, it's not as close as the one on the Hebe society but it may have very narrow yellow margins, they won't be very noticeable. To find a very hardy Hebe is not easy, it could be a cultivar of the same plant.

Yes Janet, I believe you are right. Also the yellow edges might vary due to weather conditions in my country, the yellow color is not very strong on this shrub. It grows in a very sheltered place in my neighbors garden, I suppose it would not live in an open area here.

Shade could make it green out, but also many shrubs which should have some variegation don't have it.

I think our weather is not often much different to yours Magga! It seems we get cold winds from the north more often than the south, if you look at a map we are not much below you!

I have a similar Hebe, I had two which got too big for the place I had them in so I removed them but I have one which grew itself obviously from seed nearby. It's now mature, but I rarely see flowers on it. It survived our winter 2010/11 when we had 7 weeks of continuous frost down to -17C, one day was a maximum of -7C! The shrub wasn't at all damaged by frost.
