If you are like me you just have to take pictures of the beautiful autumn colors. Southern Indiana is usually a few weeks behind the rest of the state so we are at peak color now. I hope you took some pictures and would love to see them here.

Thanks to Sharon in the Cubits Blue Garden forum, I now know that this is sumac, although possibly not the poisonous kind.
Thumb of 2012-10-19/blue23rose/bc1ad9

And this is probably poison ivy.

I did not know that honeysuckle bloomed in fall.

This is probably sassafras

Vickie! Wow ... what beautiful fall foliage! I've lived in Florida more than 45 years so I don't get to see colors like that down this far south. Your lovely photo's make me want to take a trip north! Thumbs up

Thanks, Lin. It is a beautiful time of year and as I drive home from work, I wish I could stop and take so many more pictures than I do. But it would be too dangerous on the roads that I have to travel. That is why I like to go out in the stripper pits. Very little traffic there!

If you ever do come as far north as Indiana, go to Brown County in the fall. I don't know what it is about it, but the trees are gorgeous and everyone just brags so about having been there in the fall.

Go here to see the Brown County leaf cam. You can visit without even leaving the comfort of your home! There is even a photo tour.

Beautiful, Vickie! Love the blooming honeysuckle with the colored leaves beside it, also the sassafras!
Great color, and not so far away from me.

Thanks for sharing. I need to get out with my camera for sure!

Please do Sharon. I would love to see the colors around your area. And I know you could identify the plants in your pictures! I struggle with that. Even had to google sassafras to make sure I was thinking of the right tree.

Sassafras leaves, always like mittens, sometimes 3 fingers, sometimes not, but always like mittens. I love that tree!

Thanks Joanne and Debra!

Sharon, I loved your article about sassafras. It is beautifully written and your mention of Sassyfras made me think of my Dad. He said it that way too. Brings a tear to my eye.

View from my patio.

and a couple views on my drive home from work. Although I had to get off the main road to take this one, it is in an area we call "the bottoms". The canopy of trees is very quiet and peaceful.

Lovely.
We had places we called 'the Bottoms' too: Upper Bottoms, Lower Bottoms.
And I lived 'up on Bottom Fork'. Big Grin

Thanks, Jo Ann, Sharon, and Debra.

I didn't realize how many flowers I still have blooming around the house.

The chrysanthemums have come back for me for four or five years now. Some have self-seeded and now I have an array of color. I love them.

Thanks, Sue, but no it it not at our house. Wish it was! This is in a wooded subdivision in the country and I get to go past it on my way to and from work. They always make it look so nice in the fall.''The close up shots of the chrysanthemums are mine though. Glad you enjoyed them!
