Thread OP

Hello all,

I got three lovely Japanese maples last minute as a family was moving out of state. They're all about 3-4 feet tall and in large concrete pots with good drainage. Two are broad-leafed and one is lace. I moved them all about 10-12 miles in an open trailer at times hitting 30mph Max. I now know that this was a really bad idea but it was very last minute and I had no idea how to move them...the pots are probably 400 lbs each, at least! This was about 2-3 weeks ago.

The laceleaf is now looking really bad. Sad It had a little bit of western sunblock from some bushes at its old location but now it is in full sun from about 11am on. I am west of Seattle in Bremerton WA. I believe I am zone 8a. The owner prior to me had these trees for many many years...one of them is 50 years old. The first pic is the day I brought it home and the second pic is today. Did I kill this tree or can it recover? I scratched one of the longer branches and it is still green so I'm hopeful.
Thanks for any advice you can offer,
~Jhanek

You may not like this answer... but if the tree is more important than a bruised ego I would call the previous owner. You said he had the trees for years... he would be the best source for an opinion.
If you are not willing to call him...
I will suggest you call Daniel J. Hinkley...............
If you have lived in Bremerton a long time you might remember a cutting edge nursery named Heronswood in Kingston, WA. If you have not heard of it, or of Daniel, ask some older local gardeners... I cannot believe they have not heard of him.
Here is Daniel's website..................
https://danieljhinkley.com
and here is his phone number...............
(360) 297-4181
He and his nursery are in Indianola, WA
Judging from the maps that should be pretty close to you.

No kidding.... don't hesitate... call today................
that maple is probably more than capable of recovering
IF YOU DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.

Best wishes.......... that is a beautiful tree.
