I seeded Cape daisies in a few vases this Spring. They bloomed alright, but the trouble is they all look like this:

while I expected them to be as upright as shown on the seed packet. D'Oh!

This container is in full Sun all day so I doubt this is due to the daisies looking for sunlight. I live in Zone 7b if that can help.

Hi Elpollodiabollo,

I can't tell if those Cape Daisies are "lazy" because of some nutrient deficiency. That is a possibility. I suppose you could stake them, but that isn't ideal. There are green stakes that are almost invisible. Have you considered some thing that is pushing your Cape Daisies over, like a pet or wind coming around the corner of the house? Here in Kansas, wind is always a factor, and I grow my breeder zinnias in zinnia "cages" for that reason.

The zinnia cages work on the same principle as tomato cages, only they are sized for zinnias. I make them out of re-mesh wire. The zinnia cages don't look as good as green stakes would, but they are a little easier to use. I reuse my zinnia cages from year to year.

I tip my hat to you.

Thanks for the reply.

All the daisies grew like that, slanted at an angle, in all three vases so it's not a wind nor "animal" problem. Hilarious!
I used to grow zinnia in that exact container until last year, then this year I decided to try something new and it didn't really work out it seems. I think next year I'll go back to zinnias, probably the classic Will Rogers or mixed California Giants.
