I lost my Acer leaves in May to what I believe is wind scorch? I'm a complete novice with Acers, so can someone advise me if the tree is OK and will the leaves bloom again next spring?

Kind regards

Ralph

Welcome!

I think your Maple is dead. You can do a scratch test to make an absolute determination but, it doesn't look promising. A wind storm won't knock the leaves off a healthy tree. There is another reason.

I can see a couple problems: The tree is grafted at the top. Top grafted JM's don't have a good survival rate.

Second, the pot looks small. You didn't state where you live but, the position of the tree looks like it may be in full sun. How were you determining when to water?

Hi Daisy, thank you for your reply. I live in the UK/England, the leaves started to wilt after a couple of very windy days and low temperature. The leaves then just dried/crisped and dropped off. It is in a shaded area and not in direct sunlight although not fully protected from the elements. I was watering it every other week. I researched that maples do get wind scorch and I'm hoping that's what it is but not looking good.

I think it died from lack of water. Every other week in a pot is not a lot of water for a tree that wants to live in damp soil. Mine are in bigger pots, mostly shade and are watered every other day.
