I planted in a pot a Vittatum offset with roots and leaves several months ago. I had purchased it from a well known seller from Florida with several others. New fresh potting soil was used. Kept the pots on the east side of house patio which gets morning sun up till about 2pm. After a couple of months it lost the few leaves it had and looked like it was dead. I finally gave up on that one and removed it from the pot, washed it off and put it in a small shot glass with water just touching the base plate at the bottom of the bulb. After a week, a few roots and a leaf began to show. Question is should I continue to let it grow for a while more in the water or go ahead and repot it. Maybe keeping it in a shaded area this time or even inside the house on a window sill?

Appreciate the help

U need a very good drained soil, like soil made from coconuts flakes.

Can anyone recommend a commerical potting mix specifically for bulbs like amaryllis? All I can find are home made diy potting mix formulas. I just want to buy premix ready to use well draining potting mix.

Larry, I just mix 2 part compost 2 parts pea gravel, I have good luck.

I've thought about trying Miracle Gro Cactus Palm & Citrus Potting Mix instead to the standard general purpose Miracle Gro potting mix. Supposted to be a well draining mix.

Offset seems to be fine now. It about died outside in the heat. Bulb re-developed roots in shallow water, then replanted in fresh well draining soil and is now doing good growing inside house on window sill. This one I will continue to grow inside. Good growth.
