Hi everyone,

I was given an amazing deal at our local garden center of 10 potted peonies for $1 each. I couldn't believe it! So now, I have 10 beautiful plants on my back deck. Do you guys think I should wait until fall to plant them in the ground? I have heard it doesn't matter, but I'm almost scared to plant them right now because I have a few I planted last month that aren't looking great. I can't help but wonder if that was from planting them at an improper time.

Thank you

Hi twenty_someone,

I am sure in Alaska it does not matter. I regularly re-plant my peonies after blooming and plant potted ones any time in summer if it is not hot and dry. I have never seen potted peonies for $1 on a sale, the nursery had a good reason for that probably. I would plant them right away so they have more time to grow tine feeding roots before winter. August is not a hot month in Alaska and the soil is always cool, they will start establishing right after planting. Good luck!
