Have not posted here much recently, nothing but work going on this time of year, and the things I am doing is a slow process. The new display box is now full except for two plants from James Hall, which Michelle still has to line out. There are 108 plants in the box, all 2011,12s and 2013s from several major hybridizers.
A couple of months ago

All daylilies are in three gallon pots and will be mulched with pine bark so the pots will not be visible.
This is 165 2011s and 2012s potted for the Regional meeting May of next year. Everyone that registers for the meeting will receive one of these.

The Hybridizing area is almost empty of registered plants, have potted most of them. Now I have to make some decisions on what to buy for next year. So you see I have been busy.

Now here I thought the little white fences were for decorative purposes and you say they are to keep the armadillos out, too funny. But they really look nice. You do such nice work Fred.

LOOKS GREAT FRED. One of these days I'll get over there to visit. Hopefully after next week things will be a little more caught up. Oh wait what am I saying, things never get caught up around here.

I was over Sunday and saw all those seedlings being potted, the man goes from one extreme to the other. I think he is just creating work for you, I also saw all the ones he still wants potted.

Kathleen says the lattice work looks better than the chicken wire I once used, The armadillos are really bad at times, I have traps for them but its almost impossible to catch them.

Very nice and neat looking I like the lattice work and agree with Kathleen it does look better than chicken wire. How nice to be able to leave your plants in pots up here they would be toast.

Beautiful Fred!!!! I agree, so neat and clean looking. Armidillos, yeap, I have them here. We have a mamma that raises her brood under our shop. Of course the shop has my greenhouse off the back of it. Then all my pots are around this area. This year, for the first time, they found that under those black pots of daylilies, lives the biggest grub worms on the place. So, I had pots turned upside down for awhile, then they just stopped. I haven't seen them in awhile, so maybe they have moved on to someone else's house.

I wish ya'll could have seen me about 5 year ago. I went outside about 11pm to turn the water off. I always manage to forget unless I turn on the timer. So, I'm bonding out the back door, with no light and get about 30 foot from the door when I walk upon something!!! Something bigger than a toad frog cause it's making too much noise. Not a snake, they have a very destinctive sound at night. Nope this was bigger and many more of them. So, retreat is the order of the night. I could still run, well more of a lope, but I got back inside really fast!!!! Grab flashlight and bound back out the door to see the creatures of the night. It was 4 baby armys about the size of a half grown cat. I'd never seen one before, oh well, the dead ones on the side of the road. But, these were ALIVE!! And so cute!!!(I just heard Fred squeal "They are not cute!!" But they really are and this was long before they started turning over pots. Do you know that they jump striaght up when they are scared. Straight up in the air then when they land they scurry off as fast as their fat sharp clawed little feet will take them. I HOOTED!! I laughed until it was getting dangerous on my bladder. I'd never seen anything funnier in my life. I did have one bad thought, what if they didn't run but had turned and attacked. That would have been a BAAAAAAD thing. My David came running outside because he finally heard all the comotion and wanted to know what was so funny??? Of course by then, the babies were under the shed and David just thought I had taken too many pain pills that day. He got to see them the next day but nothing could match my first discovery of baby armys.

James thinks it will be easier with the seedlings in pots, that way if he decides to keep one ( or throw one out) all he has to do is grab the pot and go plant it (or sit it in the bed until final decision) in the keeper beds instead of having to dig it up. He marks the ones he's watching with flags now (which tends to be a lot with the amount of seedlings he has) and by the time he gets around to digging them he forgets what they all look like so.......

Adding more sprinklers for the beds
Adding frost covers to some of the beds
Not to mention FINALLY putting up the poles for the shade cloth
WEED WEED WEED the jungle that is growing that we haven't had time to get to

I haven't posted much lately either, Fred. It wasn't daylilies keeping me busy
though, just a bunch of tying up the end-of-year stuff to do. Painting interior,
exterior projects, etc., with an overwhelming list that I didn't complete. Ugh.

Everything in your beds look so nice and organized as usual. Am anxious
to see what you decide to buy this year to incorporate into your breeding
programs. Have bought some from Michele, thank you Michele. Still thinking
on what next I might need.

Kathleen and I have done a lot of exterior stuff because of the upcoming Regional, all are things that needed to be done according to Kathleen, Regional or no Regional. She says I have a tendency to let things slide if there not daylily related, she may be right.

I am not much of a landscape person but I do like other plants. These are things that are grown here that I don't have to depend on a bloom for it to be enjoyable.
These were planted April 1st, French Lace Hydrangea in the center, Coleus on the outside. There are also Caladium bulbs that have not come up yet and a couple of Voodoo plants.

We planted about twenty different kind of coleus, most are now potted and in the hot house.


I don't know their real name but a person gaive me a couple several years ago
and said they were Voodoo or Snake plants.

Elephant Ears These get huge and 8-10 foot tall, they do well in sun or shade
Have them in several places.

Does your VooDoo plants have small white spots? It looks like a plant given to me but I don't have a name for it. I love plants in general too. I need to paint a garden sign this winter that says....A Plant Collector Lives Here!..

That looks like very nice landscaping to me. Lovely mixture of colors and
textures. I haven't seen VooDoo plants before. I sure do like those jungle
looking plants, and the elephant ears grow very tall for you. About 4 foot here.
It all looks great, Fred. The Caladiums will go very well with all that.
