I am really, REALLY excited. I made a trade with someone for an Anthurium cutucuense. These are among the most difficult anthuriums to grow, and are endangered now. The one he is trading me is progeny from one that was collected many years ago by some field botanists, and propagated over the years. They are so demanding because they require cloud forest conditions, and round the clock dripping wet humidity of like 90%. So cool to cold, and wet. That means under the AC vent, with a reptile fogger on a timer to fog one on the hour, every hour, around the clock. My kid has a spare front opening reptile enclosure they are lending me until I see the plant and see how big it is...they are climbers (but slow growers) so I will eventually, IF I can culture it, get a taller one. Great excuse to make a 5th terrarium LOL.
I actually had one of these about 15 years ago, but it succumbed to heat stress here in the greenhouse. This time around, it will be pampered like a princess.
The Atlanta Botanical Gardens has them climbing all over inside their 'cool house', so it can be done. Its coming today by Express mail from Ohio.....I am really excited

This is a very small plant. The leaves are only about 4-7 inches

I had to get a new taller tank for it, and I had to order some cork slabs. They are coming up from Central FL as we speak. It needs to be sort of mounted to the wall, so once my mounting substrate is here I will make the switch and flesh out a new little terrarium.

Hello Gina,
I came across your post while I'm searching for anthurium Cutucuense to learn more about it. I'm in UK/London and I'm planning to buy Anthurium Cutucuense from Ecuador, I want to know how you getting on, any advice, is it a good idea to have one?
I am also planning to buy a anthurium Lutheri, which is very little info or even pictures is around!
Do you have it? The leaves pattern is beautiful, I will appreciate if you share you valuable knowledge with me
Many thanks in advance

Hi Leila,
My cutucuense is doing extremely well. It has done nothing but grow and put on new leaves. One more leaf, and I will be forced to make a stem cutting. I grow this in an almost closed terrarium that is basically wet. I would grow it in a 100% closed system, but it sits by a large window, and the light coming in might heat the tank too much. I leave the top door ajar to dissipate heat. Cutucuense also needs to have something to attach to. It can;t stand 'on its own' so the ability for it to attach to a wall of some material is imperative. Keep the temps around 75 in the day, indirect light, and 75+% humidity. The best growing substrate is sphagnum moss.

Yes I have a Lutheri. I got it in a trade, I got the cutucuense in a trade as well. I have not been able to make it completely happy yet. I tried it on the same set up as the cutucuense, but it did not like it. I moved it to a dry terrarium that has an intermittent fogger. It did not like it. So I finally moved it out to my greenhouse and it seems to like that. I think it will like it even more when our daytime temps go down out of the 90's. Leaves would come out perfect, but then start to crisp on the edges, even in a humidity of 70+%. Definitely more touchy.

Gina that is beautiful. Could you share the space you currently have it in? I am getting one from a friend in December. I have done some research as I don't like acquiring anything I can't at least give it a shot of surviving. However, the enclosure, I would like to get ideas for. I am new to the site and am enjoying all the lovely photos and the information shared.
