Hello everyone!
I am writing cause I am concerned with my Bird of Paradise. It is located next to a window with a lot of direct sunlight (5 hours a day) and I water it once a week when I feel the soil is dry.
But it looks kind of sad since a few weeks and the news leaves in the middle stopped their growth. Looks like they are stuck or something.
Is it normal? Or do you see any kind of problem.
Thank you! ✨

Hi Wakarry, Welcome!

Your Giant White Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) looks good to me but I don't know of anyone who has luck with one thriving for long as an indoor houseplant. They are landscape plants and to really thrive, they need direct sun for quite a few hours a day. Sunlight coming through a window is not the same as direct sun, out in nature.

I've had a bird of paradise since November that was in 'hibernation' until a few weeks ago. It was neither dying nor growing. It is finally growing now and I suspect it didn't have enough nutrients before. They are heavy feeders. It started producing new growth shortly after switching to a different fertilizer. Is yours fertilized?

The black and white spots look a bit strange to me (mine doesn't have them, anyway), are those new? Have you checked for pests or bacterial problems?

Also, I was advised to water mine more often. I now water it whenever the top soil feels dry, usually twice a week. Maybe check on yours midweek to see if its already partially dry.

That's all I can think of. Hope it helps.

Thank you all for your answers! It looks like it is not changing since those few weeks! But I feel like it is not fully happy. I'll kee you up if anything changes!

Thank you very much!

Hello! I've had the white bird of paradise approximately 8 months now. Several months ago the white fly hit her. Since then it seems to be stuck. Not dying neither progressing. It is right in front of a window with good light. In the pictures you can see I have some white rocks in the pot and I'm wondering if that is part of the problem since it does not dry out.
