I love the colorful foliage of the Philodendron Strawberry Shake. Do you know whether the variegation is stable? The manager at a local nursery said she doesn't carry it because it reverts.

Regards,

Lisa

I have it, I can show you photos of mine, It is a very large mass of runners, and out of all of it, only ONE lead is variegated. I separated that one off to propagate separately, hoping it will keep its variegation.
I have spoken to an old time collector who lives in Central FL about this plant, he raises a LOT of them, and he said that, like Pink Princess, it is extremely prone to reverting. He removes all of his variegated leads from the non-variegated ones and tosses the non-variegates on the compost heap. I know it is selling for huge amounts right now, a 3 node 3 leaf cutting recently sold for $600. Which is, of course, pretty ridiculous. But....?

This is my stand...don't be fooled by the size its actually very old (over 10 years) but got neglected somewhat. I got my original cutting from Russ Hammer years ago. There are also a couple Hoya Pink-Silver leaves there

And this is the sole variegated runner I removed out of all that plant material

Thank you. Is there a way to tell which variegated plants are likely to revert?

The erubescens seem prone..Pink Princess, White Wizard also have their share of reversions. I have a very highly variegated White Wizard that has made several GREAT variegated runners and then one came out all green.

My Painted Lady will also throw entire non-variegated/splashed runners. I usually just cut them off and plant them out in the yard to take their chances
