And Kent, I sure agree with having different databases to refer to, and compare with.
And I need to be more specific, it's not the info itself on the AIS site, as that is copied from the registry, as are most of the databases, it's the photos. And yes, of course, there are errors on all sites.
But, everyone, we need pictures of all aspects of the iris, not just it's pretty face, close up of the beards, PBF, etc. I think the answer would be to have the hybridizer him or herself put the pictures in the AIS.
AIS is addressing that issue to some degree, they are requesting (not requiring) that hybridizers submit pictures with their registration forms going forward. It doesn't help with the thousands of iris that were already hybridized, but it's a start. I'm guessing those pictures will end up in the Encyclopedia.
I haven't really seen very many obvious errors with photos in the Iris Encyclopedia. The most common error I see is non-TB iris listed in the TB areas. It's an easy mistake to make, and the way the database is organized, there is no automatic way to prevent it. The biggest problem, though, is that even when errors are found and reported, they don't get fixed. I'd imagine they will get better at that over time, right now they seemed to be primarily focused on getting all 70,000 registered iris into the database and collecting as many pictures as possible.
