I think so, yes. Even though the info can be gotten elsewhere it's nice to see info on something in one place, wherever it would be.

And Kent, I sure agree with having different databases to refer to, and compare with.

And I need to be more specific, it's not the info itself on the AIS site, as that is copied from the registry, as are most of the databases, it's the photos. And yes, of course, there are errors on all sites.

But, everyone, we need pictures of all aspects of the iris, not just it's pretty face, close up of the beards, PBF, etc. I think the answer would be to have the hybridizer him or herself put the pictures in the AIS.

AIS is addressing that issue to some degree, they are requesting (not requiring) that hybridizers submit pictures with their registration forms going forward. It doesn't help with the thousands of iris that were already hybridized, but it's a start. I'm guessing those pictures will end up in the Encyclopedia.

I haven't really seen very many obvious errors with photos in the Iris Encyclopedia. The most common error I see is non-TB iris listed in the TB areas. It's an easy mistake to make, and the way the database is organized, there is no automatic way to prevent it. The biggest problem, though, is that even when errors are found and reported, they don't get fixed. I'd imagine they will get better at that over time, right now they seemed to be primarily focused on getting all 70,000 registered iris into the database and collecting as many pictures as possible.

For 3 years now I have seen my pictures of my introductions when I register, as still being new I might not have the description totally right and I am getting help and suggestions on them.

Paul please add to this database and Cubits any infor you find that is NOT already there it really does help more than many people think about.

Dee....now that it is winter and I have lots of free time I will add info. Every time I see a random picture of an iris on ATP I click on it for more info. If none is there I look at the Encyclopedia and sometimes add it. I will be more diligent in doing that.

Thank you as going back thru the alphabet and checking the iris again. I do not have the time to add the data but I truly appreciate anyone adding that for me as well as anything found elsewhere, it helps greatly

OK -- I have a question. Several times -- both in the ATP database and the Cubits database -- I have seen photographs of an Iris that is blatantly wrong. Twice, there were many photos from different people that were correct, and one glaring incorrect one. Should this be brought to the attention of the moderators?

Kent, that would be such a big help, getting the photos in from the hybridizers!

Mary Ann, yes please. Unfortunately there were some pictures put in here that Dee did not see. Or maybe we missed them, we're all human, but yes, please bring them to our attention.

What amazes me [it doesn't take much] is the vast difference in the pictures of many of the daylilys. There may be 10 or 12 photos and none resemble any of the others. There are also some Hosta where some pictures are of a Hosta with a darker center and a lighter edge and some on the same page are just the opposite.... Confused

Mary Ann I am going thru all the A's now and the big difference I see here is that the lighting is different but other than that I have only found one I am certain is incorrect and have written to the person that posted it to have them look at it first and check out on their own records before I do more.

D

But any time you see an error in the Bearded please let me know and that goes for anyone else, I can check it out and with all sources including many times the hybridizer.

D

Thank you all for helping

OK -- will do. I don't remember now which Irises they were -- but if and when I run across them again, or any others, I'll bring them to your attention.
