New jersey
I got some more flowers, but not what I had in mind for the huge flower border. Only one side bloomed due to that it was so late in the season and the sun only shined in that corner for the past for weeks. It got cold out and even though there were so many buds, they wouldn't bloom. My backyard in the winter does not have any sun. So I pulled them all out. They were so large, here's a pic of one of the biggest - a cosmos tree!

I'm sorry, as had thought I'd started a Thread, in a Forum for Cosmos.
Pardon my confusion.

I'm not that tall, but this Cosmos is taller than me, showing no sign of slowing down or blooming yet. I don't remember having any this tall before. Is this unusual?

No, it got mangled up and bent in some high winds. When I saw that, I cut off the top to see if it would root in a jar of water, which it did and looked like it was going to keep growing that way but for some reason, about 6 weeks later, it was suddenly dead. Probably should have grounded it when the roots showed up but I didn't want anything else that needed to be watered often. The stump gave up after I cut off the top but it may have been badly damaged by the wind at the base/roots and would have died anyway, I'm not sure.

The milkweed that was also in that pic did great though, getting taller than the Cosmos was in the pic and was still blooming yesterday but the frost this morning might have put an end to that.

I just sowed my cosmos seeds before the rain and they are already here, as tall as my Itoh peony, no flower yet but it's getting there. This bed is very sunny, it's like spring/summer to the seeds. I have 4 sweet pea plants emerging after the rain too.

Thanks Loretta, I have a lot of pink roses so people in the rose forum said blue and white flowers are best as borders.

I also purchased this type of cosmo seeds. I hope it turns out well, any experience with growing these.

I love cosmos. They're probably one of the easiest seeds to germinate (along with zinnias and cleomes). Most of what I plant are the orange and yellow varieties although I add a few whites. They sprout quickly, bloom profusely, and are a great source of nectar for pollinators.

I love cosmos. Any color. This year I ordered kiiri-japanese, pale mixed colors, xanthos soft yellow and rubenza red. the only ones that really came up are the red comos. and they've covered the bed front to back. def need thinning. I'm very disappointed that the other seeds didn't come up so if I see any more seeds when I'm out and about I'll get them. The seeds were not cheap!
