Hi Masud
I suppose it is the way the light hits them really but most of them do have that look starting out after a couple days they do start losing it tho.
out of around 70 plants i only have 2 that don't look satiny when they first open. 1 odd color yellow that turns a peach color when it ages and a red i got from a local grocery store a few yrs ago.
here is a couple i had delivered yesterday from Fl the reddish orange is Exotic Dancer and the yellow is Limelight . took it this morn(it shows more whitish but it is really the color of the small petal on the backside

Excuse my ignorance but why do the blooms have a fine silky kind of appearance, as if they are artificial.

Beautiful flowers, have been on the look out when I visit nurseries but Shrug! here it seems it was yesterdays fashion. This gardening aspect here has fashions, things come into fashion, things go out of fashion. Will find them some day.

Here's one of my Holiday Cactus. A couple of buds are beginning to open and in a few days it should be in full glorious bloom!

An Epi, one xanadu, one lady finger palm, one jade vine and one I can't make out but I can see the tender loving care from their happy, shiny faces. Thumbs up

The plant on the chair is a Pothos vine (Epipremneum aureum); very common here.
THIS is what I call a Jade vine - specifically a blue jade vine...Thumb of 2012-12-15/Dutchlady1/c3303b
(Strongylodon macrobotrys). spectacular and a solid zone 11 which is why I have lost 2 of them...

Thank you Hetty, we call the other one jade vine. Got a few varieties but not a good time of year to post pictures of this one. Some will go dormant and some may shrivel and vanish into the soil. Have never seen the one you call Blue Jade vine even though I am looking for it. Zone 11, not good.
This zone 11, this one has got me confused a bit. Tropical/Equatorial countries like Sri Lanka have a maximum summer temp of about 32c and minimum winter temp of about 26c. They only have two seasons(little bit hot, little bit chilly) but people from there are putting themselves in zone 11 which does not do justice. There should be some fancy named zone for Equatorial countries. As to what, Shrug! don't know. I think I should take this issue up on a appropriate fora.
Regards,
Arif.

Arif: Thank you for your kind comments. I'm not sure what you are seeing when you refer to the Epi but you are correct on others. The plants in the photo are:

Rhapis excelsa (commonly called Lady Palm)
Philodendron xanadu
Epipremnum aureum (commonly called Pothos)
Schlumbergera x buckleyi (Holiday Cactus)
Codonanthe devosiana.
The little one at the bottom is a Syngonium podophyllum that I severely cut back a few days ago.

Hetty: Very nice Jade Vine! I don't see any photo's of that one in the database. Smiling

Syngonium I know but podophyllum, I did not know that. Podophyllum I know as a tummy drug but checked up the relationship just now. Known as May apple or some thing like that which I used to confuse with Guava Glare . Same family, my my. Had the plant at my finger tips all the time and never knew Sad .
Lin, what do you mean by what I am seeing Confused I can only see what is in the photograph.

Arif.

It looks more like a Schlumbergera truncata to me. But it is a beautiful plant that is blooming like crazy. nodding

Tee: Thank you for the correct ID of the Schlumbergera in my above picture. I will upload a couple of pictures of that plant to the correct spot in the database. I have a few photo's in the database at S. x buckleyi: Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera x buckleyi) that probably need to be moved to the entry for S. truncata.

Well, Lin, it's sometimes very difficult to say. The plants we see most often now are hybrids or even hybrids of hybrids. Sometimes they show more characteristics of one parent's side or the other, such as hooked phyllocades vs. rounded phyllocades. Or some characteristic from way back in the crossing may suddenly appear.

Anyway, wherever you think they should go is fine. People debate over this all the time. I have a few plants but I'm not exactly an expert. Others have more knowledge, I'm sure. nodding

It's still a gorgeous plant whatever it is. Hurray!

Lin, that is a beautiful healthy plant. I do have to agree I think it is a Schlumbergera truncata. Whatever is is I hope you take another shot when it is in full bloom. The color and plant are just outstanding. Love it. Hurray!
