We hollowed out a section of an oak log, added drainage holes, and planted Sempervivum and Sedum last spring. It's all filled out now, and looking pretty nice. It's so fun seeing what different types of containers and growing situations these plants can handle!

Did you see the discussion of the use of driftwood planters in my book? Mrs. Crane made these sculptures of driftwood encrusted with semps. They have good nook and crannies for semps.

Thanks so much : ). I can't take too much credit, though. The plants do most of the work! I did see the section on Mrs. Crane's use of driftwood. I've got to get to the beach asap. Polly Bishop used smaller pieces f driftwood with semps too. She was always looking for ones with "the right sort of pocket for planting". We lived at the edge of a huge reservoir to Boston and there was always pieces coming to shore from long ago trees being felled.
