I have another wonderful update on Bubophyllums under lights.
I recently got ahold of a 6 pack of Bulbophyllum species, my choice. I have a beautiful plant of Bulbophyllum rothschildianum 'Red Chimney', a Bulbophyllum macrobulbon, and 3 Bulbophyllum (Chirropetalum) mastersianums. That is the gorgeous orange flowered species that flower with the rounded umbel. I have them all in a seedling bark mix with seedling perlite and charcoal. In three weeks time, roots are popping everywhere. A few that were a little floppy from a lack of moisture have really perked up!!
A couple of hybrids, Bulb. Laura Newton, Bulb. Simply Aghast and a species called Bulbophyllum frostii are thriving after 4 months or so under lights. They really look good.
I water twice per week and they are sitting under the triple tube fixture, about 15" below. I fertilize with Jacks 20-20-20 once a month. Now I sit and wait to see a bloom spike here and there.
Frostii looks like little 'wooden shoes' and Red Chimney is redder but very similar to Elizabeth Anne but with much shorter segments. It is a gorgeous species.
