As a comment about Lady Tulip (Tulipa clusiana), Calif_Sue wrote:

According to Old House Gardens:
"Although many sources offer this petite, charming wildflower, virtually all deliver cheap impostors such as hybrid 'Lady Jane' (oversized, and empty inside) or modern cream-to-yellow forms instead of the ancient rose and WHITE with its heart of deep, ravishing purple."

Many images here are related to the species.

Sue it appears that I have one of the imposters. Where can one get the true Tulipa clusiana?

Is it possible that some of the names now listed as synonyms have yellow blooms?

yes Zuzu, very likely it seems when you Google them! They all look different. My photos are labeled as clusiana var. chrysantha and they do look closer to that but a paler version than what Google images depict.

Here are some more synonyms that aren't listed in our entry because we never had entries for them: http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

Tulipa stellata var. chrysantha matches most of the "questionable" images, I think.

I bought mine ("true" or T. clusiana f. clusiana, i.e. white and red with purple heart) from Old House Gardens. Has returned and bloomed for me for many years. Nice little tulip. Smiling
