Hey Ann. When I called to place my order, I still wasn't sure what I wanted so we spent some time discussing a few of the possibilities. When we got to the 2013 DIP collection Pete asked which I liked best. I said 'Kal. Dreamsicle' and he thought this was odd. He said he was sure that 'Kal Queen' would be the one everyone wanted. Because of the budcount. Well as it turns out everyone wants the 'Kal.Dreamsicle'.
Then he asked about the 2012 Fall DIPs, and I said 'Turquoise Treasure'. He asked if I would like to have that as my bonus and of course I said Yes!
We spoke for about 30 min which is way longer than you would expect. But I did catch him in the garden on the cell phone so he was looking at plants as we discussed them. All in all a good talk.
We shall see in the Spring how all turns out but I am hopeful.

I got no bonus for my order this year. I wouldn't expect a bonus, IF they didn't say so on their website. They really need to get their affairs in order there.

I sell on the Lilyauction and because of all the extra work involved, I don't usually send bonuses. But I don't state that I send bonuses either, I usually try to state that I do not send bonuses. I will send extra fans if I have them.

Personally, I prefer extra fans as a bonus when possible. In other words, I consider extra fans as the bonus if sent. It is not always possible or profitable for the seller to include extra fans. It is always hard to decide what the buyer might like and might not already have. To paraphrase Mike Longo about the Lily Auction and bonuses---giving a bonus is the seller's choice. However, some people seem to think they should receive a bonus. If a seller says in writing they will send a bonus, then I think they should whether it be extra fans or a different plant. If nothing is said about a bonus, then one should not be expected but the window is left open to send one if the seller chooses. Just my opinion...

I prefer extra fans as a bonus too. The seller knows that they really want the plant that they are sending. because they purchased it so why risk sending one that they may give away or compost.

It's actually a pain in the rear trying to send an extra plant as a bonus, for me a least it is because I try to send something that I think they will like. Sort of if they bought only eyed daylilies from me I try to send another eyed daylily or if they bought a pattern I try to send another pattern. It's just so much easier to send extra fans when possible as the bonus. Some people just don't have a lot of extra plants to use for bonus plants either.
What I did for a few people was if I saw them bidding on something and didn't win it and if I had another I offered to give it as a bonus so they wouldn't have to bid on it and maybe not win it if I relisted it.

I too like to get extra fans.

Some of you may remember Ric-A-Tee daylily gardens in Alabama. I ordered from them when I first started out and instead of a bonus they gave you the option of free shipping. I thought that was a great plan and ordered more then I intended to because I then sent some to a friend of mine.....I've gotten some really nice bonus plants though, ones I wouldn't have thought of over the years, but I've also gotten a few I didn't care for. I remember one nursery sent me Stella De Oro. Really? It's a ticklish business especially if you as a good seller of daylilies are trying to "mind read" what the buyers will like. Usually I just give nurseries that ask the colors I like and let them select what they think is nice.....Maryl

I stopped giving bonus plants several years ago because of my experiences with receiving bonus plants, hardly ever received anything I could use or wanted. On the auction I offer the increase and a flat shipping price of $12 for everything you buy for spring shipping. I do not offer this on my web site because its a year-around thing and the auction is a seasonal thing (fall and winter).

I have noticed that some sellers have gone up to $4 on each. I hate to buy older/cheaper ones when the shipping is that much.

Since I have a small garden and am limited to planting in boxes, I really, really prefer more fans as a bonus. However, I think Nicole is a mind reader. I called her last month and ordered Art in Motion and Smooth Talker. As a bonus I got Loud and Lovely. I think I like that one better than what I actually ordered. Happy camper, here!

My KALEIDOSCOPE QUEEN arrived today. I got ELECTRIC KALEIDOSCOPE as a bonus; I made sure I gave suggestions ( I told them which ones I already had at least) for a bonus so they wouldn't forget to include it like has been done to others Whistling

I don't mind getting all my daylilies now, but it seems like everytime a package arrives it decides it wants to freeze!! The night after I planted my Trimmer daylilies it got down to 28° after raining all day (wasn't suppose to get that low) and when I went over the next morning the daylilies were slushy in the middle and had ice in them. I cut the slushy off and they are fine and are growing, but I should have checked the weather and not planted them and just let them soak for a couple of days. I should have gone over after the sun went down and covered the plants with 5 gal nursery pots to keep them from freezing, that always works.
It's suppose to get below freezing tomorrow night so I will wait to plant these.

HI guys...I dont know if any of you read my post about LA sellers...I mentioned Pete Harry....I had a bad experience from them and prob wouldnt buy from them again....to make a long story short they lost/forgot my sale and decided to mail the lily out during hurricane sandy after MULTIPLE emails asking them not to....and after all of that and forgetting me for over a month they didnt even send a bonus..... Glare

They did apologize but it was a " sorry our internet must have gone down....sent the lily...let us know if it dies"...nothing about all of the emails i sent asking them NOT to send it...cause after a month and a half it was the middle of nov....too cold in the mntns of East Tn...i planted it so i hope it does ok....

To date it was the most I have ever spent on a lily...it was $75 for pansy pattern....
