Shannon, So why are you not planting them now? I am confused. What did you get?

DH and I spent the day planting our spring bulbs. We got 913 planted today so now we only have 3316 more to plant, but I think we can get it done in 2 more days. I want to wait until all the ordered bulbs were here so we could do each bed or area at the same time. Weather is plenty warm to work outside and the ground isn't frozen this week. Fingers crossed that we get it done by late Thursday as I need to go off Island on Friday. Patti

So you will plant them in RI during a winter thaw which we always get up this way which is very smart of you. Hope you find more. Good luck with the move. Remember that the allium will really stink up your bulb box, so keep it away from your linens or cloths when moving. Patti

I picked up some 75% off bulbs too, but it is -20ºC, which is -4ºF and the ground is frozen solid. I planted some crocus, bluebells, dwarf tulips and chionodoxa into large 6-pack cell trays and have them in our heated garage, which stays about 7ºC. I put them on the floor, farthest from the furnace and close to the overhead door. I think they will stay above freezing, but just above. I plan to move them to a heated greenhouse in early March and hope to have blooms by beginning of April. We have a Garden Show the 2nd weekend of April and I usually plant up a container for a little people's choice award. The theme this year is Seasons of the Senses, so I hope to have some of these for my "Spring" part. I'm going to seed some orange pansies before the New Year to use in the Autumn part. Also got a little Euro Pine for $5 from Lowes for the Winter part. My plan is to make 4 different "scenes" and have them mounted on a large lazy-susan to turn to look at each. Not sure if I will be able to trick short sweet peas to bloom then or a 10" dwarf sunflower, but will try.

Hilarious! The scenes are still in my head. I did plant the fall bulbs before Christmas and they are in the garage on the floor and stay just above freezing. I'm going to put them under lights: Dwarf Tulips in February and rest in March. Do you think that would be about the timing for blooms April 12?

I found some dwarf sunflower Choco Sun and had a few Sugar & Spice sweet pea seeds. I sowed those, alyssum and ponytail grass today. I sowed some pansies last week. I hope they all germinate and I get blooms super early. It is fun to plan an early project, since we have such a late spring. I don't have lights in the greenhouse, so I won't put anything out there until March. I'm going to use a lot of the stuff that I started in a couple of seed starting workshops at the end of the month...so I hope they germinate soon

He is about 6 months old and very curious. This is the 1st time he has seen the seed starting operation. His name is Turtle, but he moves quick like a Cheetah. It's been very cold and we got a foot of snow yesterday, so he was thinking that was a pretty neat spot

Blinking The tulips & English bluebells are up. Too early to start the greenhouse (under 10 hours of daylight). I put them under lights in the house.
