I am trying to remind myself to find what I really want, then buy that, instead of wanting ALL the peonies!

Wait until you are shopping based on bloom dates. I am buying 2 or 3 next year just to add a few weeks to my bloom timeline. But going from 4 weeks to 6 weeks with peony flowers is a considerable improvement.

I'm thinking of adding Kamata Fuji for next year. Since I have cancelled my trip to Japan, my tax portion will be refunded soon. The miles have already been deposited. I think if I can't go to Japan, I'll bring a Japan to me, lol.

Top extending the season is why I looked into tree peonies, but the 2 or 3 that I really want seem to overlap the corals as far as I can tell. This bloom time seems so hard to understand. I think it is location specific, not really type, but maybe it was the original root stock. I tried listing and buying based on bloom time, but so many websites conflicted and I am not sure why.

I have one late peony coming and I am looking for a red tree peony as I read they are the earliest, but I also got Little Scout which Adelman's says is their earliest.

I did decide that I like bright colors in spring and red, coral, yellow are what I want. I would get a yellow tree peony if it was earlier than the coral, but I just can't tell.

I am not willing to go fern-leaf early Smiling My soil isn't going to work for that kind of peony.

I naturally like peach/coral color varieties and they bloom early. But High Noon is yellow color and it's easy for beginners. Anyway, next year, I will be glad to get something, not picky here.

I like regular peonies anyway. My soil is awful. Yesterday I dug up an area full of grey and blueish looking clay, thank goodness I had been preparing for this, I scooped my own compost and planted my peonies.

I have sandy loam soil, so I think that the fernleaf do well. I am also thinking about going to Adelman's in spring when they sell potted tree peonies...My brother lives fairly close to them...I guess we will see what spring brings.

I just checked out Brooks Gardens for the first time! So many pretty peonies! I'm out of both space and money for this season but ai went through and loaded up ny cart just for fun. In addition to Coral Charm which was already on my list and Love Affair which is on my lottery ticket list I found 5 more.
Kaleidoscope
Chief Black Hawk
Nelda's Joy

For my lottery list.

Carina
Allan Rogers

For my reasonable list.

Kaleidoscope is the one I am most taken with. I'll have to check back in 5 years as it's going for $75 at the moment.

My list totaled exactly $500

There isn't much wrong with peony Allan Rogers. Big, white good-smelling blooms that don't need support sound great. Good choice!

Solaris has Allen Rogers for $20, it's out of stock now.
I like Nelda's Joy too.

I looked at Kaleidoscope (Anderson/Kornder, 1999) at Brook's, it looks very similar to Anderson's Kaleidoscope ((Anderson/Kornder, 2006) registered at APS. Is it the same peony? If yes, then it is $50 at Swenson's and Solaris.

I just saw Spellbound on the peony lovers fb group. It genuinely looks orange! I think it's only available in NZ.

Hiyamakki, I think Solaris offered it last year. It is in high demand so it sells out quickly.

Think Nate got a healthy number of Simmons' peonies a few years ago, I'm sure we'll see more and more of them offered over the next few years.

There are 2 Kaleidoscopes, Anderson's and Sonoma, both Itohs but different looks. Striped is Anderson's, Sonoma is a similar base color but not as dramatic IMO. Still very pretty!

I don't know why I keep looking at peonies when I'm out of space for the year!

I may treat myself to Anderson's Kaleidoscope next year. I'm turning 40 and it seems as good a way to celebrate as any! I can justify $50 for a special occasion 😁

I treat myself every year when it comes to flowers. I just got my refund from cancelling 2 first class trips to Japan in Jan 2021, all on frequent miles of course, I just got the tax portion back, I will treat myself to something when the vendors open. I found out I might get more room in my garden, if not, I will take over to my sister's yard. I'm the care taker of my sister's garden, aka the gardener, what I don't like goes over to her yard, haha. She only wants fragrant flowers.

There's a fire evacuation order in my hood, so glad I booked to go on vacation, otherwise my husband and I couldn't breath. What a perfect timing. I just hope my house will be there when I get back. Mandatory evacuation was ordered for 60,000 people. I hope my peonies will be ok, I'm kidding of course, but this morning the yard smells like a bbq.
Here the view from our room.

SoCal, such a wonderful evacuation plan! Where are you now and where is your house? It is so scary with all these fires! Be safe!
