In the on line daylily journal I just got, there is an article that says morning the loss of three great men. Jeff was on the list. Is this so. I just saw him out there this summer. I live in same town and can find no obituary.

He passed away two or three days ago

O man.....say it isnt so. Ill have to see if they need anything. If that recent, they dont know what they need. Jeff and Elizabeth were always walking the garden together...talking. Such a nice man. Sorry to hear this. Thanks for the info tho.

I was told he had a massive heart attack and died three nights ago. He was one the great hybridizers of modern times and brought golden edged and eyed and edge cultivars where they are today.

Pam - I know George Doorakian passed recently. Who was the third? I don't know why I haven't been receiving the online journal.

I am sorry to hear this, I really admire his and his wife's daylilies. Is he very old?

Ummm wonder what elizabeth will do with all those plants of his in his greenhouse, its just she and Alex their daughter out there. They were always in the garden together I just dont now if thats where she will find peace or distress. Just to bad, and their daughter is late 20's early 30's...Im not good at that, but still young so he could not have been that old. I believe there are grandchildren/child out there but have never seen them. Just very quiet and nice. She, like Dan Hansen, a vault of daylily info in their memory as both were brought up in dayliles. Love to hear either of them start talking. Still did not see an obituary today.

Rhonda Veroeven announced on the youtube video that there were 14 hybridizers along with other members who passed away this year. She didn't name them, but that is a great loss to the society.

Thanks for the sad update, all. It's been a tough year for our daylily community.

It is sad that we have lost Jeff Salter and so many others too.
Just to start a conversation which is the best cultivar of his that you grow?

I have a couple of Jeff Salter plants that have not been in my garden long enough to determine just how good they are going to be. I will know more about them this year.
Of the ones that have been in my garden for years 'Parisian Adventure' would be my number one performer.

I have eleven Salter plants ( although two of those are EH's...his wife?). Most of them are new or coming this Spring. Of the two that I've had for a while, one seems to be a much stronger plant than the other. Of course, they have different looks and heights but Paco Bell is a great plant




I also have Kansas City Kicker. I love the flower but it isn't nearly as prolific as Paco Bell
