Has anyone here ordered from these people? http://www.northlandrosarium.c... I'm looking at ordering a couple from them as my LGS are pretty much wiped out for roses and I'd like to get a few more in before the end of the growing season (yes, it's barely the middle of June & I'm worrying about the end of the season). Daves Garden's Watchdog has good ratings for this company. What size roses were sent? How dependable were they as far as tagging? How big were the roses? You know, just about everything. LOL

They're good-sized band roses, bigger than the roses you'd get from Rogue Valley or Vintage and certainly bigger than the ones from Heirloom. I've never bought a mislabeled one from them yet.

There is this, however: In my garden, many of them stop growing after about 3 years. They don't die; they just don't get any bigger. I have no idea why that happens. I used to love Amity and Northland roses because they were so much better than bands from anywhere else. Both of them, however, share that weird problem. I have about 50 or 60 from those two places, and at least half have stayed at their third-year growth. I know that's usually the maximum growth for modern roses, but only if they're grafted. Own-root roses take about 5 or 6 years to reach maximum growth in most cases.

It's especially apparent in duplicate roses from those two nurseries. If I have one from either of them and another from another nursery, even another own-root nursery like Roses Unlimited, for example, the Amity or Northland rose is always inferior by comparison after the third year.

Well, I don't want to be paying $25 for bands.. I don't care how special they are. Fudge.
