I've seen Ipomopsis flowers attacked in this way. The little blooms often fall to the ground and the bee has easy access to the nectar. I assumed it was a bumblebee, though. I'll have to look closer next time!

edited to correct the flower--it was not Silene, it was Scarlet Rocket that had blooms attacked.

not to take away from the fabulous banner, just to add to the disobedient bee

here you can see the carpenter bee feeding at the base of the flower and even the holes previously made in the base of the flowers above, plus-and, the shiny hairless abdomen

You are right about these bad boy bees! We have lots of carpenter bees and they make these tubular flowers look so bedraggled after they make their holes. Some flowers dry up faster than they would have otherwise and they just hang there, so sad looking. At least the bees are not making holes in my house!
