It's a variety of Camellias (Camellia) but I don't know which one.

but poor thing! It's had a tough time and yet is valiantly blooming. Among other unfortunate conditions...sunburn, maybe?

It's from my parents house and it's usually pretty neglected I wanted to research to see what it needed so I could help it thrive (:
hmmm... it's in a shady part of my house so i'm unsure if it's sunburn but we might have a bug infestation that has affected a lot of the plants so maybe that's it?

A quick search turned up camellia tea mite which might account for that center-rib browning. There is a lot of web info about camellia ailments. They are lovely shrubs when healthy. I know you can refurbish that one with some TLC
