Thread OP

Hi,

This is probably a silly question but are the numbers that are given to hybrids by nurseries e.g. Campfire 320 specific to the nursery or are they a worldwide naming convention? If it is the latter, can someone explain what they reference. Also, if it is a plant reference, is it possible to find the name of the hybrid from the number e.g I have an established plant but the number 431 is still visible on the base stem,

kind regards,

Mike

Mike they are numbers given by nurseries.
The Epiphyllum society of america has a directory of names, with hybidisers and descriptions.
Not numbers.
There are many thousands of hybrids and more being registered all the time.
Cheers, Steve.

Hi Mike,
Had only just realized you are in Australia and that you are in league with Debbie Carmichael.
This site is a 'backwater' of the epiphyllum world which is why I like it.
I have become somewhat disillusioned with it all lately and am winding down after being involved for decades.
Our epi and hoya society which is the only one left in Australia now has become so hoya centric .
The annual show was on saturday and for the first time I didn't even go.
Anyhow...it occurred to me regarding epis with numbers in Australia most likely came from the Dutch windmill nursery in WA which had a large catalogue many years ago. Changed hands and no longer grow epis. I have their old catalogues.
If you want to know what for eg 431 is I can look it up for you.
Regards. Steve.
