When I began to collect roses the gallicas caught my eye because of all the stripes and speckles...they are sometimes called 'the mad gallicas' I didn't know then that they need more cold than is usually found in Texas...this year should be a good year for them as it has been colder than usual.

This is Cramoisi des Alpes.

Tricolore de Flanders it is a gallica that does not like it here, it died but before leaving, it gave me this bloom...isn't it lovely?

Beautiful foliage on these, Melva, and that's always been my favorite picture of Horsie, looking at the photographer with such love. He really adored you.

Thanks..it was a mutual admiration society...but since I was always taking the picture, we just have his side.
In the picture is Penelope a hybrid musk (white one) and Canary Island Gallica (purple)

Belle de Crecy, another Gallica. This one grew into such an enormous monster that I gave it to my friend Joanne, who has 10+ acres of land. I think I planted 4 or 5 hybrid teas in the space it had once taken up.

Cardinal de Richelieu, another huge Gallica. Quite beautiful, with a unique combination of purple and beige in the blooms, but prone to attract every pest in your garden and gardens far away. This is where my curculio weevil infestations start.
