Thanks Olga!
I was curious, since this was a pretty picture which also won the Orchid and Tropical category. It seems one can grow it down to zone 7! Hmm, a tropical plant?????

Neither a tropical nor an Orchid winning the category?

My power has been out, so imagine my surprise to discover this thread just now Hilarious!

Ursula, I know that you, personally, NEED to have an orchid only category because you have been on that crusade for many years now...I also have issues with a number of "categories", but, this isn't the place to discuss them!

I'm sorry to have upset you once again with an entry that doesn't meet your specifications. I only have one orchid. I have managed to keep it alive and happy and blooming for several years now, and have even taken some nice pictures of it...but, it is too pedestrian or something and has never impressed anyone. This year, I threw in this photo of a southern African bulb believing that it could qualify as a 'tropical' because my tag that came with it says zone 9-10, plus, I had already filled the bulb category with hardy bulbs.

I am surprised and pleased that it won Smiling
and, I am also sorry that it aggravates you Sad Please know that that was never my intention.

I saw that you also started a thread questioning the 'tropicalness' of a passiflora, too.

It seems as though you are trying to disqualify these photos somehow.
If that is your intent and goal, I find it rude, embarrassing, and pointless for you to police the tropical category in this manner.
I suggest that it would be more appropriate for you to address your contentions with the Admins during the initial voting phase rather than with the individual contestants after the final.
It's easy enough, just click thru the pictures and take a screen shot of all the ones that are not tropical enough for you and treemail to Admins and request their disqualification. With any luck they will be removed. If not, please, try to resist the urge to jump on them with such validity ugliness when they are posted.
Apparently tropical miscategorizations bother you deeply. I hope you will realize that there are kinder and more effective ways to educate people, if that is your goal and intent instead.

I did! In this thread. And the rules were explained to me.
The thread "Categories" in The 2020 Garden.org Photo Contest!

I would just like to mention that I actually truly do enjoy your pictures, they are always well composed and enjoyable! Peace!

I see--

Thank you Ursula. Peace to you as well.

//As much as I loathe the individual plant categories, I think orchids alone wouldn't bother me with 'sameness' like the others do--such diversity in the family! Hope someday they get free of that lumping Crossing Fingers!
