Sansevieria in Bloom

This is commonly called the Whales Fin or Sharks fin. it is a semi succulent with wonderfully smudged leaves with a nice design. It's slow growing, but a definite 'Keeper'.It loves bright light and average temperatures. Water deeply and sparingly. It does best when it's not over watered. Mine blooms about every other year in my greenhouse.

Really neat picture Karen! Can we see the entire photo please?

I never realized these plants bloomed. That is a very delicate looking flower for such a tough and sturdy plant. Well done banner.

I thought this was the original pic, but I see it's not. I'm still looking for the right one!

They do bloom when they are mature and happy. This one was in my home for 10 years with no blooms. Now it has been in the greenhouse for 5 years, and it's bloomed 3 times.

Close enough Karen, thanks! In the banner, it sort of looks like the bloom is sprouting out of the cut end of a leaf. That's why I wanted to see the whole.

The blooms come up out of the soil, right next to a mature leaf.

I love this as much for the joy you clearly take in having nurtured this plant as for it's obvious beauty now that it's 'mature and happy'. And it definitely expanded my experience of sansevieria species. Thumbs up

Karen, that photo is astounding! I love that soft green color on the bloom, and that strip that looks like gold, which I think is the edge of where a leaf has been trimmed off. I just love the whole thing. You did good gurl! Lovey dubby

@slowcala, that edge you commented on is the natural edge of the plant. For some reason it looks like it's naturally outlined!

Cool plant Karen! I've never seen a bloom, though I used to have a sansevieria (at least I think that is what I had). Tough plants. Congratulations on getting yours to bloom! Smiling

Thanks, Laurie! If you can give your plants summer vacations outside, they might surprise you with blooms.
