I was contemplating getting Hercules phlox from Brecks as I still have some credit with them, but gave up as nobody knows how good it is. My other phloxes are generally surviving, but not thriving - I water only during extreme drought. David is quite reasonable in size and worth growing. Others are struggling - too short to interplant with peonies and I place them in front rows.

Annie, I have not netted any annuals to date. I find planting really close together helps but for the most part I let things do what they want. I just cut them and use them at their funny angles.

I suppose they would benefit from some type of grow through support that can be raised up as they grow but I haven't seen any that can do that or that work in landscape beds like I have. Netting would be a nightmare in my crowded beds.

I'm trying a whole lot of lisianthus this year, I had mixed results last year. Some flopped and some grew totally straight with no support. I may try weaving a support through one variety to compare.

Sulli..Annual Phlox and Pincushion were they only ones with crazy angles.. I wonder if I plant phlox on the southside of my ringed peonies...I might give that a try. I also got shorter phlox as I don't really need tall florists annual phlox...I just wanted the pink color.

It never occurred to me last year as I was ordering flowers by color that there would be tall florists kinds and shorter bedding kinds...I just ordered the colors I liked. I am also finding that there are cutting peonies and landscape peonies...another thing I never knew. (I do have some that are both.)I am trying to get a landscape that I like looking at and that I can get an arrangement from on a weekly basis...it is really, really hard to find how to do that and it seems like it is a pretty steep learning curve.

Alex...I was looking at the variegated Phlox at Brecks, but I have never seen tall garden phlox in person...when I get to my local nursery have to ask if it does well here...I think the variegation would look great with peony foliage.

Pink and white daffodils make nice companion for early peony growths.

Karen, I'm working to arrange peonies with daffodils as well! I'd like to combine something with long lasting red foliage with a yellow daff---if I can get them to coincide.

I'm posting pictures of my yard, I think @jasmin asked about it in another thread. Basically I have no space so I have to grow up along the 4 walls.
Here it is.

My yard is rectangular

My alley where junk stuff is store, but I'm expanding this area for more plants, possible will reduce the number of worm compost bins, right now I have 4 bins.

I didn't include this shady area of my garden, right in front of the California room, I have a mixture of plants here, 2 astilbes, one large Empress Wu Hosta, Scarlet Heaven Itoh, a few coral peonies, and a few bleeding hearts.
