Hi all,

I'm in need of a little help. I got a monstera albo wet stick a few days before Christmas. I unfortunately put it in water for a few days before I realized that was not my best option, but have since transferred it to sphagnum moss. I'm trying to keep it warm and humid, but I've noticed the cut node starting to blacken. It has two aerial roots in the moss and I can feel a bump of what I assume to be a node coming through. I'm concerned about the black though as I'm afraid it's starting to rot, so any advice would be appreciated.

treat it with fungicide if you have not already. You may not be able to stop the rot but fungicide would help

Thank you! I read through pages and pages more posts after reading this and the forum has really been so helpful, thank you for all your contributions. I cut off the rot and treated with cinnamon which seems to be helping so far, fingers crossed for growth!

Um, well, just an aside...cinnamon from your spice cabinet can be quite variable and studies have shown that it does not generally contain the active ingredient that works as a fungicide in strong enough concentration to really be effective. I would treat it with a real fungicide myself, after all, its an expensive thing, no? I use captan, but you can also use something like Physan20 which is bactericidal, virucidal, algaecide and fungicidal.

Thank you again Gina!! I took your advice and treated with fungicide. I've noticed a bit of shriveling at the ends and that has me a little concerned. I have supplies to upgrade my set up a bit on their way, a deeper orchid pot and a cloche to create a better greenhouse effect. Is the shriveling something you have experienced before? I get the sense it's still healthy, as it seems that something is trying to make its way out of the split pictured.
