I don't know. *Blush* Others will be along, I just started getting this because I just joined in January I believe. They sent me a membership directory and a growers guide and the voucher. (see pic above) This one is called a Journal and it has some nice pictures, but I have not read it yet.

Oh, Steve said you get two a year (printed) and access to the fall journal on line and also the archives. Sounds good. Thumbs up

Previously Paul said, " there was a snarky article where the author, an AHS officer, made remarks about gardeners who chose to plant a a number of variegated Hosta. He referred to those Hosta beds as "a convention of clowns" and also discussed his designer friends and there superior tastes in Hosta. "

That is why I was so surprised to see a variagated Hosta on the cover and even more is a variegated Hosta garden on the inside of the cover. Maybe they regret what they said? Why even print something like that? Whistling

There are two copies of the Hosta Journal that are sent out each year. And we also receive a listing of new registrations. Not sure whether I might have forgotten something too. The only thing is that, living in Canada, I seem to get the HJs really late. But they are very well done.

Well, thank you for the information. I thought the journals were online and maybe you could get a sneak peek! I went to the website and they said in the members only section there is a third Hosta Journal. But I did not see any journals, I saw some good articles and publications for sale. Hummmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I just need more time to check this out. I love the Journal, this one has a good article about Hostas in containers. Thumbs up

One thought, if you live in Canada, they drive the Journals across the border, give them to customs to sort out and clear and we end up getting them about a month after everyone else.

I noticed they have a password on the back of the Journal and that gives you access but if you do not have the Journal how do you access. I will send you this password they gave me, it looks generic like something they give everyone. It is worth a try, they said if you are a member you have access to the Journals.

It IS a generic password and a couple of people in the AHS have passed it on to me, but I've not yet used it. If does get changed annually.

I haven't renewed my AHS membership this year. Part of me wants to, because I do get some valuable information (and a ton of great pictures) from the journals, but...part of me also realizes that I can find a lot of that information online and get it through chatting with friends. Part of me wants to support the AHS and the work they do with HVX and other hosta diseases, but...part of me is burned out on gardening societies after a bad experience with a local club.

I suppose I'll end up paying my $30 so I can get my magazines and email zines, though. I always looked forward to them.

Ugh. I don't have the money to spare at the moment with a move coming up, but I want my Hosta Journal. Guess I'll have to pony up...and pay the late registration fee. Glare

Karen, you can read the journal for free online. With the password you can even access the archives. Or did you want one for your Coffee Table? Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Thumbs up

Well, I really do like having the twice-yearly printed copy. There's always something nice about that slick, shiny magazine I can linger over while reading in bed. So, maybe not the coffee table, but definitely the bedside table. Thumbs up
