The Desired Seeds List thread is already getting mucked up Blinking

There are a lot of people who haven't made a wish list yet & with all the extra conversations going on in there it's gonna be a pain to wade through it Blinking

That happened last year too, (I think) and I don't recall if Dnd was able to delete the chatter or how it was handled...

Apologies, I was a part of that chatter…I was trying to find out how many people were interested in Grindelia, as well as helping out Susan with how to operate in the swap. I probably should've sent her a tree-mail instead.

You didn't know, Johannian so don't give it another thought. Smiling You're doing great figuring everything out. I'm sure Dnd will fix it somehow. Thumbs up

It's just that, especially with so many in the swap, it will be easier to look at the want/wish lists without other conversation.

Hi, everyone! Just seeing the last several posts now. I don't have the ability to delete posts, only the site moderators and Dave have that capability, to the best of my knowledge. They are busy people, though, and I have already issued a reminder for folks to chat about desired seeds elsewhere. If the off-topic conversations continue, I'll enlist in the help of our site moderators, but I doubt it'll come to that. Smiling They were honest mistakes--no one is intentionally ignoring the rules of the thread, it's just easy to forget them, especially being a new member! We've all been there, right? I checked to see if I could delete an old post I had made elsewhere, and I could. However, after removing the text, I had to hit "return" before closing and saving. This was on my iPhone. If I just closed and saved, it put my text right back where it was.

Or, DnD, you could just start a whole new post "desited seed lists ONLY" list and leave the other was "desired seed chat"!??

I'm a dreamer, but I am trying hard to face reality. My age, physical limitations, and responsibilities taking care of my 89-year-old husband with memory and mobility issues have made me step back from my garden wishes.

I am listing seeds that are, hopefully, still viable, seeds that I had hoped to grow, but realistically will not be able to. So quickly we go from forty-something to pushing eighty. I'm not giving up, but cutting back and hoping the seeds I am offering will find good soil to grow in and give you pleasure.

So very well said, Patrob. I'm in a similar boat, and I love the image of some of us leaving trails of seeds and their seedy dreams behind as we sail up stream.

If not for my late dh's deep appreciation for nature and gardening, I would not be in this boat either.

and I'm not quitting either.

Some of the best seeds I've had the pleasure to know are those joyfully pressed into my hands by octogenarians at plant swaps in my community. In fact, some of the seeds I offer in this swap are the great grandchildren of those offerings. It seems to me Seed Savers are a rare breed in a sea of gardeners that appreciate plants in cell packs and pots. For them, I grow out my seed stash. Photo: May in New York. Trailer is used in the off-season to start seeds.

Just took a few types of pepper seeds off my trading list (only ones that hadn't been wishlisted), as I went through the numbers again, this time for growing in 2023. I realized I had been looking at how old they were while thinking of them being grown this year, but it's too late in the year for that, right? I don't want to be sending out seeds that won't grow. I have on my seed viability list that pepper seeds only last 2 years. Feel free to let me know if you have had pepper seeds last longer.

I planted out a lot of older seed for 2022. My 2016 sweet bell pepper seeds did well! There's still time before this swap to do a viability test on some kinds of seeds. Offering a generous quantity of the older seeds to sow betters the chances that a few will germinate.

@tranquilDoe I've had success with older seeds. Other viability charts say peppers are viable 2-4 or 5 years. I planted a whole packet of 12-year-old tomato seeds in a small tray once, hoping for one plant. I think every seed came up. Transplanted and gave away all I could.

Just add the year to your offering, and people can decide if they want to try them or not. I consider seeds I want even if they are a little older than the charts recommend.

Time has just gotten away from me & I was late placing my seed order. Hoping it hurries up & gets here because some of those seeds were what I was putting in the swap. I can't remember what all I even ordered because they were out of alot I was wanting to order.

@patrob Really appreciate it. You're right, if I just put the year, people can decide for themselves. It's really cool you have horses. They are such beautiful creatures. One of my hopes is that when my honey and I buy a house, there will be someone with a horse nearby, so I can visit often, bringing carrots. Big Grin

One of my favorite parts about these swaps is learning about new (to me) plants! It's one of the things I love about gardening too - there's always something more to learn.
