Arlene, please! I think on my thread at least, I will declare the word WEED taboo. I'd call them "those-horrible-things-that-shall-remain-unnamed" but it would take too long to type. I'd have to keep coming back to this message and copy/paste Smiling

Problem is ... where the plants are I can deal with the weeds. But where I have paths and I haven't yet places tiles, rocks, pebbles and it's just the dirt, that's where these weeds are thriving. Oh well... as long as I can still see my flowers it's OK.

I do put down landscape fabric (we're talking rows, NOT beds in a cutting garden). My problem is, our garden slopes so when we get a lot of rain too quickly the soil washes down onto the landscape fabric making a prime spot for those "those-horrible-things-that-shall-remain-unnamed" Hilarious!

I have been trying to plant closely so there isn't light below for "those-horrible-things-that-shall-remain-unnamed" and it seems to work pretty well. Right now, most of "those-horrible-things-that-shall-remain-unnamed" are at the edges of the rows, but "those-horrible-things-that-shall-remain-unnamed" grow so quickly they soon overtake the flowers and the path!

Did I do okay? Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Arlene, your copy/paste technique is impressive!
You'll soon start training others... so this old-old tradition doesn't die ... with they young generations ... yeah, like there's a chance!

I can almost say my plants have overgrown "those-horrible-things-that-shall-remain-unnamed" but then... they also end up shading the good ones. And I often have to move "ornamentals" to other locations...

YUP. I always wanted to put pebbles or tiles or something, but it takes time, money, and I just didn't look more into it. I'd probably have to dig way down to remove all seeds and roots... they always find a way towards the light!

Fresh ones from last Sat.
Was hot, spent most of the time weeding (I got about 3-4 big sacks of weeds... I think our cow was happy. Coming from the fields where she was supposed to stuff her belly, she is still hungry in the evening... hmmm)

Calin, I like how you showcase the flower next to the plant that it came from. That way we can really see the beauty that is revealed with your extra photo. Thanks for sharing. Smiling Oh, and nice that you allow your cow to snack on the weeds in the evening?

Right, I have several roses that do great, I really don't like to fuss with my plants anymore, if they need to much attention then they probably won't do well in my conditions nodding

Oh well... I have given up some plants along the way. I especially "hate" the ones enjoyed by the darn spidermites. I'm talking houseplants.
Once I see these, I instantly plan a plan to get rid of it.

In the garden... I tend to remove plants that produce too many eager-to-germinate seeds.
I have way too many weeds to deal with, I don't need a thousand flower volunteers.

AAA, and the ones that are fussy when times get a bit dry. Why can't they grow long, long roots to search for water???
