Hi @Protoavis,

Could you upload some photos of your 'Pearl Jennifer' imposter to the 2016 thread? If it is indeed 'Tresor', then it should look the same as mine (from Lake Nurseries, which is now owned by Tesselaar).

I have also tried 'Tiger Babies' X 'Tresor' this year. Waiting to see if any viable seed forms.

Possibly not the best photos, it's very bright outside, but here they are

Interesting, @protoavis - I don't think those are 'Tresor'. Here's a photo of my 'Tresor' in bloom:

Mine is in partial shade and I didn't have glare to contend with, so it makes it hard to compare the colour. Even so, mine has a lot more spots than yours and appears to be darker.

I agree that it's definitely not 'Pearl Jennifer', though (I will hopefully have a bloom of this open tomorrow). It looks like it's up-facing? It doesn't match anything else in the Tesselaar catalogue.

Yes, the color is different. In real life whatever it is is a pumpkin colour (rather than the yellow) rather than that orange in yours. Tresor was just the closest in their catalogue but appears it's not that either.

It is upfacing.

The other two bulbs that came with it don't look like they'll bloom this year but there is a slim chance. They had a lot of buds but stunted development of them for whatever reason, most shriveled up and fell off (unlike the mystery, tiger babies and the orientals that seem fine), they looked odd from the beginning with a black dot at the very tip of the buds (the others didn't have that). The other two bulbs have seemed different than the mystery (despite all packaged as the same) and I wouldn't be surprised if the other two are the same as each other but don't match the mystery. There's a few buds on those two that may flower as few the remaining buds are now starting to increase in size (after having just stopped growth all together for the past month or so) but they seem weeks behind where they should be...so if anything eventuates from those it'll interesting.

-edit 2016-12-5-

So I spoke with customer support, just to inform them something had gone wrong (I mean if it were me, I'd like to know so I could investigate if possible to not occur again), they couldn't identify either but suspect it's probably an LA.
So likely nothing will result from pollinating on to tiger babies unless you all cross you fingers and wish :P

I've read Tiger Babies has a tendancy towards chaff pods but all the flowers I pollinated with the NOID are forming pods while others I left aren't. Probably nothing more than coincidence but interesting none the less.

You will have to see if those pods actually produce seed or just chaff. The size of the pod isn't always a good indicator.

Good Luck! Crossing Fingers!

Took my chaff bin and dumped it into my Greisbach bed. We'll see if anything was good or can survive. Lol

The second picture is of a bulb of lilium malipoense that I received from China. I have another one that will go into a pot. It looked like majoense in the picture as I have never heard of malipoense before. Anyone who has any info please let me know. I believe it's in the same group with poilanei, majoense, primulinum, and Nepalese.

Interesting, Joe. "malipoense" isn't an accepted name and a quick search doesn't turn up any results, so I suspect it's gotten mixed up from another genus. It may well be majoense (now considered a synonym of L. primulinum var. ochraceum, though not entirely sure why - they look different). Please keep us posted!

It's a pretty bulb, Joe. I like the color a lot. You'll have to come back and show us blooming pictures.

It looks like the bulb has survived the shipping really well. Thumbs up

"malipoense" doesn't show up in the Flora of China, or as a synonym for any of those probable taxa.

Update on the box for the co-worker's kiddo.

I've put it together with instructions, the parents' pictures and pots, though I may add a couple more pots with potting medium.

Every once in a while I have a good, creative idea. My daughter wrapped the box for me, I must confess, as I am a terrible gift wrapper.

Maybe this kid will be the one who figures out how to cure the Lily virus.

I mulched my raised beds yesterday night. A most pleasant activity with temps in the upper 20s F. - cold enough so the snow isn't wet, but warm enough to be very comfortable. No winter mulching over the in-ground garden this year.
