The tip of 1 leaf on a few different plants start to get soft at the tip then dry out.I have been cutting the bad part off until i get to where it's healthy,i then dip the cut part of the plant into cinnamon and it heals and no more problems with that leaf.I would like to know what could be causing this. They are starter plants i've had about 8 or 9 months.

Did you change the culture at all? More or less of something? there could be to much of something in the soil and the plant is loading sacrificial leaves with salt or fertilizer?

Good morning questions, Mark.

Jo I have the same plant from Louise. I haven't fed it yet at all and it appears to be thriving. If you have been feeding it or planted in a Miracle Grow mix (or even watering with water that has a lot of salts in it) I would flush the soil with water until it is running freely from the bottom of the pot. How often are you watering it?
In the end, only kindness matters.

Science is not the answer, it is the question.

I see similar tip issues with other succulents if they got too long wet then felt cold. Maybe lay off from watering a bit, it takes longer for media to dry out anyways during cold season. Oftentimes, I just leave tips that gets blackened alone, at times the blackened portion seals off the rest of the plant from further damage. I do not cut them off, just let nature take its toll. When Spring returns with its better temps, the succulents will bounce back.

My own epis are thriving outdoors in the cold, but I did have the plant by a cement slab, so maybe it is getting some passive heat dispersal at night. Luckily not raining for the past couple of weeks either, and I have not watered them at all, seeing the media gets the moisture from the air.

As i said i got them as starter plants but i was badly mistaken on how long I've had them, it's been over a year SORRY Blinking Confused They were in very small pots when they were arrived.I can't for the life of me remember where i ordered them from??? Confused I was told to let them get pot bound & then re-pot.I went up 1 pot size & they took off growing beautifully,i was surprised how fast they grew this summer.I kept them outside in partial sun.I was told to keep the soil damp & not let them dry out until well rooted, they are definitely well rooted.Inside now i let them dry out an inch down maybe but not go totally dry, then water & drain well.I gave more water in summer but did let them begin to dry after i re-potted them, they were kept just damp. Our summers are 3 digit temps, july & august are unbearable. Now they are in indirect sun, except for this past month it's done nothing but rain here. I am not feeding now,but i was over the summer and this happened then as well. Here's an example,it took some looking but this is a better look.

I seen this when it started and it started at the tip and i thought maybe i had jumped the gun cutting off the mushy/diseased part of the leaf,so i left it alone this isn't dried out,it's mushy,it dries with time.In a week it went from the tip to where you see it in this picture. The fact that it starts at the tip & keeps going down the leaf is why i stop it by cutting it off and then i put cinnamon on the wound on the healthy part of the leaf. This is something i watched my mom & grandmother do to seal up plants to prevent any kind of disease or fungus from getting into the wound.

This has happened to different plants, one is an oxy and the others my grandson took the labels out when i was unpacking them and i haven't ever found what he done with them. Confused Blinking I received them as just a package of different epi's so i didn't order specific ones. It's happened outside as well as inside,in summer & winter,i use distilled water there shouldn't be salts etc... to build up.It has me puzzled.

I do have some cuttings from Louise and there doing great!!

This picture is different the parent leaf is just dying back and i don't know if i should remove it.When it gets to the bottom of the leaf which it being the parent leaf will it kill the plant if i don't remove it??

I wish i hadn't let the leaf on that particular plant(in the first picture) go so far because it took more than half the leaf.the others i removed as soon as i noticed it are very healthy.

could it be its flowering and letting its leaves die?

jojoe once you complained about dampness, did you by any chance take any measures against the fungus/mold issue which was occurring on the soil?
Regards,
Arif.

it does seem like it could be fungus - so agree with Tarev, let it dry out more between waterings maybe.
I love the 4 foot long part though!! Very cool! Hurray!

Greg, yea it is cool,I put it under my bay window and it has gotten so long that i have to search through my "lipstick 'twister' plant" hanging in the bay window to find the tip.Guess i'm going to have to move it again so it isn't under a HB in the bay window. I was hoping it would start pointing down Rolling on the floor laughing yea right it's stand tall & strong. When the plant gets bigger i hope it will go on a trellis as well as the rest of my epi's. All the ones i see in HB's are lopsided & i've seen some on trellis's that look better.I have been using trellis's more often because i'm out of room for HB's. Shrug!

I have been letting them dry out more since their roots are now established.I was told not to let them dry out but i think that was maybe because they were so young & still growing roots.

Have a nice day!!!!

Looks great Jelinda! Mine is just beginning to get a couple of those but because its in a bookcase where it can only go up a couple feet it has no where to go - seeing yours makes me think I should move mine, I love how thick and strong these things are! Very odd! Hilarious!
You have a great day too! Don't you just love plants! And having 'experts' here inline to answer questions has helped me feel more confident about growing different plants!
Cheers
