You'll be very surprised to hear that we grow most of our vegetables in winter here in the warm South.

Hetty is exactly right. So northerners who move down here should expect to have their vegetable gardening time tables turned topsy turvy!
Also winter crops here are cabbage, turnips, mustard greens, beets, kohlrabi, & even peas. Oh yeah, & this is the time of year that citrus ripens.

Just made a fresh tomato soup from a glut of tomatoes I picked Thumbs up followed by a Thai green papaya salad... and that Papaya also came right of the tree in the yard!

That's awesome! I would love fresh home grown tomatoes now. What do you grow in the summer? We have an extremely short summer and it it is tough to grow a lot of stuff without a lot of extra work. It is much better East and North of here. The close proximity of the mountains and the way the wind blows keep us very cool in the summer.

Had a fresh grapefruit this morning for breakfast. The tree is loaded this year. The fruit is smaller probably because of the overabundance of fruit, but I can live with that!
