I seem to have fallen down a rabbit hole here. The CoL says the Thaumatophyllum genus does not exist, but we have many of its species listed in our database. Most of them were edited to show this genus name in February 2020. Apparently, DNA tests showed the existence of this genus, distinct from Philodendron, in 2018. Our database subsequently was edited to reflect this discovery, but the CoL still has not acted on this information. It's possible that taxonomists challenged the information and disagreed. It's also possible that the information has been accepted and the CoL hasn't caught up with this latest change. In either case, the species entries may require further editing. If this is a case of the CoL taking too long to show new information, Thaunatophyllum bipinnatifidum would be the accepted name of the plant. Stay tuned.
