Greg, funny you should mention the nighthawks, it was awesome watching a large flock of them last night from the deck. I just love the way they fly with the quick maneuvers to grab the insects. They are very difficult to photograph, I didn't even bother last night.

Took this last year.

Thanks Greg. I tip my hat to you. We had my sister and husband here for a bbq dinner last night, after we got to watch the nighthawks do their thing, we loved the way they came swooping over the house and across the garden then fly high in the sky, it was a perfect evening, warm, not much breeze and then we got to see the super moon rise. Smiling

I also saw the moon rise and boy was that pretty!! Thumbs up So it seems you have quite a few in your area, that is very cool Margaret! Not sure if they are here and I just don't see/hear them (which would be very hard for me to believe! I'm mister observant when it comes to birds and flowers and things!!!) Hilarious! Anyway love your photo!! Thank You!

When my parents lived in Westport, CT, a very young bald eagle visited town. It perched on some pilings and some girders on a bridge. Newspapers aid he was a bald eagle, but I wouldn't know. The colors did not seem very distinct, and I didn't think coastal CT was within their range. It was a very urban area!

I think the appeal was a fish store. Could they have been throwing fish guts right back into the river? The hoards of seagulls seemed to think so.

Those gulls were sure perturbed by the presence of the young eagle! They complained a lot and flapped around agitatedly.

Eventually they would work up the courage to scrounge around the fish store, which would make the eagle wake up and take a lazy circle around the area. Just "flap flap cruise ...". That had the same effect on the gulls as a strafing run by a squadron of Luftwaffe.

Then the eagle would fly back to his piling and apparently go back to sleep.

People flocked around with cameras. After a week or two, he moved on.
