Darn you, Jo Ann! I thought I had everything orderd for this year, and you reminded me that Pheasant Feathers was one I wanted to get! Crying Always next year, I guess!! Something about how those yellow beards jump off the falls really trips my trigger!! Hurray! It has an "older" form that I like, too.Reminds me more of a late 50's iris, than one from the late 90's' Arlyn

It always amazes me when real iris lovers describe what they like.
The beards are the last thing I notice. I wanted a bunch of iris to bloom with those poppies. There isnt much else in bloom in early june in that spot.Lilies are just starting but I suspect the iris will be gone by lily time.

I also wanted a "carry over" color to peachy, soft oranges and have some light colors to play against the dark Pheasant Feathers and Rarer than Rubies. There is a noid soft yellow Harvest of Memories( maybe)
They are all TB's and I will just be able to see the tops from the deck.
Its all about me you know!!!!

Sorry if I ruined your plant budget Alryn. Dee's catalog was too tempting.

You're a Sweetheart, Dee Lovey dubby And don't feel too bad about it, Jo Ann. Half the fun of being an Iris-a-holic is feeding others addictions!!I will say that I have gotten carried away this year, but justify it by the fact that I have time now, that I'm retired, to finally spend all the effort and devotion to my hobbies! Every bloom I smell, or every fish I catch, COULD be my last!! So I'm "in a hurry to enjoy"!! LOL...Arlyn

In a way, I agree with you Arlyn and Jo Ann that once retired, I now have the time to really enjoy my TB irises. I do not agree with you Jo Ann in that I have greatly enjoyed "SeedStarting". I started hybridizing TB irises after retiring 8 years ago, and below are shown some of my seedlings I've seen so far from the 5 of the 8 years that I have made crosses. Results of my crosses have typically been seen in the first bloom during the 3rd year after making a cross. I think that if you try it you will enjoy it, if for no other reason than seeing the variety of colors/patterns achieved from a single cross, and the anticipation of wondering what will be the appearance of each new seedling once it blooms.

Bless you for your patience Dennis.
Those are beautiful.
I am new to iris and my spring anticipation runns along the lines of "will it increase and bloom"?

Beautiful Irises, Dennis. I especially like #1!! Lovey dubby

Side note -- Dennis and I are *neighbors*. I've seen his trays and trays of babies -- and *kindergarten* beds where young Irises are blooming for the first time. Fascinating!

Here is the parentage of those shown above from 1 to 13.
1. Shore Patrol X Ruffled Sunshine
2. Thunder Spirit X Skating Party
3. Apparent Secret X Frosted Fantasy
4. Stairway to Heaven X Night Game
5, 6, 7. Frosted Fantasy X Apparent Secret
8. Laced Cotton X All Aboard
9, 11, 12, 13. Amain X World of Color
10. Amain X Lets Be Friends
These 13 represent the reselects from approximately 900 seedlings that have bloomed through last summer. I have ~500 additional seedlings planted that have not bloomed to date. I expect to see the initial bloom on ~300 of those this spring. I will post some of this group after bloom this year.

I should have never looked..... Those mini's are just SO cute! Now I need to figure out which ones to limit myself to, and besides, I don't like little flowers - but fell in love with Keppel's Icon several years ago... Urg ~Jan
