I got this plant from someone else, and clearly it needs help. But I don't know what it is to be able to take care of it properly. Please help if you are able, thank you!

Welcome!

Maybe (BIG maybe) a Dracaena?

If it's very soft stemmed it could be a Dieffenbachia. Either way it needs lots more light.

Yes I thought so about the light as well. But it seems to get more yellow when it gets more light. It is in a spot where when the sun is out it receives a good amount of light- at least half the day. I think I am watering it too much, I have a habit of drowning plants with love Sad The stem is very hard.

My first thought was that it reminded me of Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) but whatever it is, the pot may likely be too large for the size of the plants roots system, which can cause issues with proper watering.

I was thinking it looked like some sort of bamboo! But I wasn't sure and don't know very much about bamboo, besides the larger varieties that just shoot up in a stick with few leaves. But looking up info on lucky bamboo (which apparently is not actually bamboo it says whoops) it mentions that it cannot handle very much direct sun (which it gets a good amount of) so that would make sense that it is not happy right now. Thank you for the advice on the pot, I will look for a smaller one to put it in. I hope I haven't killed it already Sad Thank you so much for your response!
